District Livestock Services Offices (DLSO), Gorkha has banned sacrifice of birds including pigeons, chicken and ducks at the district headquarter’s Kalika temple and the Manakamana temple.

A meeting of the chiefs of various offices located at the district decided to ban the sacrifices to prevent bird flu. The meeting was called after bird flu was spotted in Kaski, last week.

Bird sacrifices at the temples were stopped for two months last year, too, after detection of bird flu in some eastern districts.

Hundreds of birds are sacrificed every day at the Manakamana and Kalika temples as offerings from devotees making various vows. nepalnews.com
